The Book Cover Guessing Game

Hey guys!! This post is inspired by one of my favorite book blogs out there, The Bookworm Girls 123!  About a month ago they did a post where they posted covers to popular books which they know nothing about, and then tried to describe what they thought of it solely based on the cover.  This is actually a tag, but since I wasn’t officially tagged I’m not going to tag anyone else.  I loved their post and the idea, and so I decided to try it here anyways!

The first one is Red Queen (and series) by Victoria Aveyard.  I’ve seen a lot of people give these books high reviews, but I haven’t actually bothered to read deeper and see what the book is all about.  Based on who I’ve seen review it, I would say that it’s likely dystopian of some sort, and a YA/teen novel.  Because of that, I’m going to say that the book is about a Queen who murders the King, and then becomes the ruler of the kingdom.  After that, she just kind of goes crazy, and it turns into a Game of Thrones meets the Boleyn era Europe type thing.  The cover says that “Power is a Dangerous Game” so I figure that many people try to maneuver their way into the throne, but this Red Queen is insane and so she just murders everyone who threatens her.  Plus (as it looks YA) there’s a legitimate love interest, and eventually that will melt her icy heart.  Or she kills him because, ya know, plot twist!

Okay, now here’s the Goodreads summary (oh wait first, I just saw that the last one is Kings Cage, so I bet she doesn’t kill her love interest, she just married then imprisons him lol): This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.  The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.  That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.  Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.  But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

Well basically all I got right is that the main character would battle “against her own heart”, so solid 20% there 😉 I’ll give myself one more try because this was pretty fun.

This is weird because this book is on my TBR, but I have no clue what it’s about.  I’ve just heard that it’s a really powerful read and went from there.  Based on the little top right sticky note (“The story of a boy called Finch and a girl named Violet”) I’m going to say that there are two kids, probably in middle school, and they both have a really hard time in school, they get bullied, and basically hate life.  Then, they meet each other.  Once they meet, the world is changed forever.  The two form a secret club where they refer to each other only in code names: Finch and Violet, of course.  They become the best of friends and together lend their strength to overcome the terrible bullies that have been ruining their lives for the past 4 years.  Or something like that.  Oh, and they fall in love.

The real truth (according to Goodreads): The Fault in Our Stars meets Eleanor and Park in this exhilarating and heart-wrenching love story about a girl who learns to live from a boy who intends to die.  Soon to be a major motion picture starring Elle Fanning!  Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.  Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.  When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.  This is an intense, gripping novel perfect for fans of Jay Asher, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman, and Jenny Downham from a talented new voice in YA, Jennifer Niven.

ooh this sounds better than I thought it would! I basically got the romance thing right I think, and the fact that Finch seems to be kind of outcast at school.  Plus, they might really form a secret club, even if those are their real names and they’re also high school students.  I’d go with 80% on this one, for missing the major themes but hitting on the in between.
