As the end of the year approaches, so do end of year awards. One of my favorites is the People’s Choice Awards, because it actually relies on public opinion rather than merely old rich white men in a room. I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick when I was in the theater, and so even though it’s the only one of these movies I’ve watched, I do think it deserves my vote.

I will fully admit that I do give 1/5 of my votes each day to Ticket To Paradise. However, Fire Island was one of my favorite movies of the entire year. The cast is just SO GOOD, the jokes made me laugh, and the Pride and Prejudice plot was well executed.

Luckiest Girl Alive absolutely wrecked me. It was triggering in pretty much every way, so I recommend making sure you’re in a stable mindset before beginning. I am in love with Mila Kunis, but even beyond that this movie was just so well done.

I’ve already spoken about why I think Top Gun is a good movie, but in this ranking I make the case that Miles Teller is a better actor than Tom Cruise. This is a take that is, at the very least, controversial. The thing is– Miles Teller was SERVING in this movie. He was my Divergent crush and he is back on screen ready to make me swoon once again.

I would also be happy if Sandler won this category because I genuinely think Hustle was phenomenal. However, I will forever stay loyal to the romcom as a genre and so my vote must go to Roberts. Plus, I will die on the hill that Julia Roberts is one of the last true actresses of our time. Her talent is undeniable.

I thought TWITHATSFTGITW (I’m not typing that all out again) was a pretty entertaining show, but Abbott is just far superior. As for Only Murders, it would have had a better chance if I’d binged it, but the episodical releases caused me to forget about it for long periods of time, which is not the marker of an excellent show.

Serena deserves this award 1000 times over. I’m not even sure what Rapinoe specifically did this year? If anything the women standing up to the abuse in the NWSL should have gotten the nom. Regardless, Serena Williams continues to stand apart from everyone around her, and we truly lost the goat when she retired.
