Every year I get absolutely HYPE for the Spotify Wrapped. I love music and have sensory issues so I listen to music with my noise-canceling headphones all day. Some of the things in my Wrapped this year were definitely expected, and some actually shocked me. Spotify only takes data for the Wrapped from January 1st to (supposedly) October 31st, so apologies to all the songs I loved that came out after that, I still love you.

Top Genres

I listened to 88 different genres, but the top five were pop, post-teen pop, indie pop, rock, and show tunes. I spent 29,835 minutes (497 hours and 15 minutes, or a little over 20 days) listening to music this year, which is actually a lot lower than I would have predicted, as I spent over 32,000 minutes last year. Still, It was more than 82% of listeners in the United States.

Top Artists

My top artist of 2022 was Halsey, something I predicted before the year even started. I was in her top 0.5% of listeners. Seriously, go listen to their album “if i can’t have love, i want power”, it is so good. The Glee Cast was my second top artist, and I would be embarrassed, but I’m not— so many of their covers slap so hard. I will die on this hill. Filling out the remainder of my top five were Lady Gaga (which was a relief because I was worried this would be the first year she wouldn’t be on my top artist list and she is my emotional support artist), Demi Lovato (their new album “Holy Fvck” was shockingly good; I hadn’t liked the last few releases), and Doja Cat (who I am in love with), in that order.

Top Songs

My top song was “Could’ve Just Left Me Alone” by Alexa Cappelli, which I predicted. The other songs in my top five were “11 Minutes” by Halsey and YUNGBLUD, “Fear of Dying” by Poppy, “Come to Your Senses” from Tick Tick Boom, and “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves, none of which are the least bit surprising.

Predictions for 2023

As for the upcoming year, I wanted to make some predictions so at the end of 2023 I can go back and see what I got right.

As for who I think my top artist will be, my best guess is Halsey, which would be the third year in a row at my number one spot,  although I wouldn’t be surprised if Demi Lovato or Lady Gaga are at the top either.

I cannot reasonably predict the top song, since it is usually a song that came out that year. However, I do think “FREAK” by Demi Lovato and YUNGBLUD will be somewhere on the top 5 because I cannot stop listening to it; it’s so badass. I think pop will be my top genre though, as always. I hope to surpass my listening time, since it was surprisingly low this year.

Overall, I would say my Spotify Wrapped seemed pretty on the nose this year, and I can’t wait to do this all again in 2023!
