I love the time of the year when all of our TV show tracking spreadsheets are reset to zero and it seems like the whole world is our oyster. There are so many incredible new shows coming out to stream this year on all platforms, from Netflix and Hulu to Paramount+ and Showtime. I cannot wait to binge all of them the second they came out; there’s so many binge worthy shows in 2023 already!

Below is the list of releases for the first three months of 2023, enough to get you through the winter. Shows are ordered by release date.

Kaleidoscope

Release Date: January 1st, 2023

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Action / Thriller

This show looks so bizarre! In the tradition of Black Mirror, Netflix is once again pioneering a new way to watch TV by releasing a series you can watch in any order. While all of the episodes are about the same story, each one takes place a different length of time before or after the crime. Supposedly, the order you watch the episodes will affect your overall experience. I truly cannot wait to watch and find out if that’s true or not!

Ginny and Georgia (Season 2)

Release Date: January 5th, 2023

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Comedy / Drama

I ADORED season 1 of Ginny and Georgia, and I’m so excited that season 2 is right around the corner. Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry are such incredible actors, and the plot has so many twists and turns that you never see where it is going. I can’t wait to resolve all of the cliff hangers of season 1 and find out more about my favorite mother/daughter duo. Ginny and Georgia is truly the Gilmore Girls for the kids who grew up idolizing Amy in Gone Girl.

Are You The One? (Season 9)

Release Date: January 18th, 2023

Where to Watch: Paramount+

Genre: Reality Dating

This show is so fun! Are You the One? is a dating show that asks the question— can you find the person we paired you up with ahead of time? To solve the puzzle, there’s a combination of trusting your instincts and playing the numbers, both of which are equally fun to watch unfold. To be honest, nobody is there to find love, they’re all there to find money and fame, and that makes it delightful.

That ’90s Show

Release Date: January 19th, 2023

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Sitcom

I never watched That ’70s Show, but I am a huge fan of Laura Prepon and for that reason I may be tuning in to this reboot of the early-2000s classic. I don’t know much about the plot other than that a significant number of the original cast is returning, and that alone should make it a must-watch for fans of the original.

How I Met Your Father (Season 2)

Release Date: January 24th, 2023

Where to Watch: Hulu

Genre: Sitcom

I haven’t watched season 1 of How I Met Your Father, nor have I watched all of the original series How I Met Your Mother. I have, however, heard that Hilary Duff is much less insufferable than Neil Patrick Harris was as Barney Stinson, which makes me willing to give this a shot.

Poker Face

Release Date: January 25th, 2023

Where to Watch: Peacock

Genre: Mystery / Comedy / Drama

This show description sounds strange, and I admittedly am not 100% sure what to think of it. Natasha Lyonne stars as Charlie Cale in this detective mystery where she can somehow sense when people are lying and use this to solve crimes. To be honest, I would be inclined to say this sounds terrible, but I felt the same way about Russian Doll and it become one of my favorite shows of the year. There’s so many incredible actors in this that I will be tuning in to see whether Charlie Cale is as good of a detective as she’s cracked up to be.

Harlem (Season 2)

Release Date: February 3rd, 2023

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime

Genre: Comedy

I have not heard a single bad thing about this comedy that follows best friends Camille, Tye, Quinn and Angie on their journeys throughout New York City. TV Shows that follow friend groups during their daily lives are some of my absolute favorites, if only because it increases the strength of my parasocial relationships and leads to me googling apartment rents in NYC.

Daisy Jones and the Six

Release Date: March 3rd, 2023

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime

Genre: Historical / Drama

I am OBSESSED with Daisy Jones and the Six, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This is undoubtedly one of Reid’s best works, a story that follows the life trajectory of Daisy Jones through a series of interviews with members of the band and people in her life. Each paragraph of the book was a different person speaking, and yet it was so well-integrated into the story. The showrunners of this limited series certainly have their work cut out for them if they’re going to put as much heart into this band as the book did.

Shadow and Bone (Season 2)

Release Date: March 16th, 2023

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Fantasy

I do not watch or read the Shadow and Bone series, but if you’re looking for a fantasy to dive into headfirst, this is the one for you. The series is based off of all of the books in Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, including the Shadow and Bone series and the Six of Crows series. This world is incredibly well-developed and ripe for exploring, making the TV show worth the watch.

Yellowjackets (Season 2)

Release Date: March 24th, 2023

Where to Watch: Showtime

Genre: Horror

I cannot emphasize enough what a big fan of Yellowjackets I am. This series follows a soccer team that got stranded in the woods on the way to a big meet, both in that timeline and years later as adults. There’s so much drama, suspense, and pent up angst in all of these characters! It’s the first show I’ve watched in a long time where coming up with theories is fun because I both don’t know where it is going and trust the writers to have solid ideas. If you don’t mind body horror and are looking for a new show to watch, this one is worth the Showtime subscription.
