I cannot even explain how many absolutely incredible looking books are coming out this month! I guess a good place to start would be that I checked out 4 influencer ALCs from Libro.fm when my previous maximum was 2. There were simply too many good ones to pass up on! Even outside of those, the books coming out this month look delightful from start to finish and I’m sure many of the WTTN Best Of 2024 will be coming from this set.

The Sicilian Inheritance

Genre: Historical Fiction

Sara Marsala is a present day adult who doesn’t even know who she is. When a mystery takes her back to an Italian countryside to prove her inheritance, we flash back to 1900s Serafina, a woman forced to grow up far to young. I’m excited to see the overlap between Sara and Serafina as well as how the author weaves together the two narratives in a way that makes them compelling for us as a reader.

Just for the Summer

Author: Abby Jimenez

Release Date: April 2nd, 2024

Genre: Contemporary Romance

I can’t get over how simultaneously ridiculous and cute this book looks. Justin has a curse that every woman he dates goes on to find their soulmate immediately after him. Emma has the same problem. When Reddit gets ahold of this information about Justin, she makes a plan to date him, hoping that their curses will balance each other out. Although it’s supposed to be just for the summer, difficult life cicumstances end up bringing them closer than they ever imagined.

The Husbands

Author: Holly Gramazio

Release Date: April 2nd, 2024

Genre: Magical Realism

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

In Holly Gramazio’s debut novel, we explore a theme that seems similar to The Midnight Library. In the book, Lauren returns home to find a husband she didn’t even know she had. As the book continues, the husbands continue to change and be swapped out, leading Lauren to consider her life choices and how to know when she’s actually on the right path. This book looks quirky and I’m incredibly excited to read it.

The Last Love Song

Author: Kalie Holford

Release Date: April 9th, 2024

Genre: Young Adult LGBTQ+ Romance

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

It’s the summer after high school graduation, and everyone seems to be moving on. Everyone, that is, except Mia Peters. While Mia continues to write new songs, her sort-of girlfriend pushes her to think bigger. I’m excited for this coming of age lesbian novel set on the precipice of one of life’s biggest changes. Graduating high school and deciding what to do next is always so hard, and Kalie Holford seems to be exploring this in a fun, romantic way.

The Familiar

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Release Date: April 9th, 2024

Genre: Historical Fiction / Fantasy

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

I still have not read a single book by Leigh Bardugo! And before y’all yell at me, I know it’s something I have to work on. The Familiar is an entirely new universe for Bardugo, one set during the Spanish Golden Age. I’m pretty obsessed with high fantasy, and I think this book promises to deliver just that, sending our main character Luzia Cotado from a scullion to a secret weapon after her mistress discovers her propensity for magic.

You Know What You Did

Author: K.T. Nguyen

Release Date: April 16th, 2024

Genre: Mystery / Thriller

Annie “Anh Le” Shaw is a first generation Vietnamese American who has her life all figured out. It isn’t until her mother passes away that she realizes she doesn’t have it all as figured out as she once thought. Her OCD comes back, only the things she’s thinking about start to come true. As mysteries start to form, Annie finds herself in the thick of a crime scene, desperate to protect her daughter at all costs. I would ordinarily be wary of an “OCD comes true” narrative, but the author has stated that she also is in recovery for obsessive compulsive disorder, so I am excited and hopeful for what Nguyen does with the narrative.

Funny Story

Author: Emily Henry

Release Date: April 23rd, 2024

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

I’m a sucker for Emily Henry’s style of romantic comedy. It’s always uniquely quirky and cute while still finding a way to be devastatingly emotional at the same time. In Funny Story, Henry brings us a fake dating trope where two people, devastated after their partners left them for each other, pretend to be dating on social media. Only, pretty soon it’s not so pretend after all! This book looks cute and classically Henry; I can’t wait to read it.

Real Americans

Author: Rachel Khong

Release Date: April 30th, 2024

Genre: Historical Fiction / Fantasy

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

In the early aughts, Lily and Matthew fall in love. They could not be more different, and because of that it doesn’t work out. In 2021, their 15 year old child, Nick Chen, feels alone where he lives with his single mom. He has no idea about who his father is, but he strikes out to find him in this novel. Not knowing who your family is can be such a profound experience, and this deeply moving book is sure to make me cry throughout.

The Mother ACT

Author: Heidi Reimer

Release Date: April 30th, 2024

Genre: Literary Fiction

Find the Book: Goodreads | StoryGraph | Bookshop

Sadie Jones never wanted to be a mother. She’s a controversial feminist and an actress, and that’s what’s most important to her. She does have a child, though, and Jude feels the ache of the mother that was missing for most of her childhood. As Jude and Sadie become equally famous, their conflict is forced to the surface in a way it never had been before. This book looks so incredibly powerful and I cannot wait to explore the mother/daughter drama that’s sure to unfold.
